Well Facebook has an opinion but not sure their scientific data is that, well sceintific. To measure happiness they basically looks at how many positive words people use in their status updates. For this particular study, Facebook looked at the use of positive and negative words in status messages over the course of one week in January. The data team was then able to filter the results based on sex and relationship status (as defined by Facebook).


The Facebook results showed people who are in relationships do seem happier than those who are not in relationships. However, there are some important areas of distinction. For instance, the people that seem the most unhappy are those that either don’t disclose their relationship status or those that are in an open relationship (none of us should be shocked by that!!!!)
